COMFORT

Friday 06 Sep
21:00 - 21:45 i Chelsea

Developing their sound through years of intensive writing and performing in spaces aligned with Glasgow's queer/punk scene, comfort are a sibling duo consisting of Sean on drums and Natalie as magnetic front-woman, backed by wildly oscillating software synths to create music that is direct and engaging. The confrontational vulnerability inherent in their music reaches for a personal, yet queer liberation within a constrictive society. comfort create music demanding freedom not tolerance - they have reinterpreted the ethos of punk music for the 21st century sending a clear message that they hold no interest in finding a middle ground with bigotry.

SWIM SCHOOL

Saturday 07 Sep
22:15 - 23:00 i The Loft Main Floor

If 2023 was the year to grow for swim school, 2024 is the year to fly.

"Making emphatic, anthem records they are the band that everyone in the scene has their eye on..." BBC Radio 1 Next Wave 2023 was the year to grow for swim school. "We spent less time at home in Edinburgh last year than ever" says Alice Johnson - guitar playing vocalist (and vocal) front woman of the rapidly attention attracting three-piece. "We played our first shows in Europe, toured the UK several times and had more incredible experiences than we could ever have imagined. It was tough at times though and we had our own stuff to deal with - personally and professionally - just like everyone else in the world. I think we've all learned a lot about ourselves, let go of some things and embraced others. That's growing up l suppose. Looking back now it feels like all of that was preparing us for this year. We feel like we're hitting our stride as a band and as people."

ZOE GRAHAM

Friday 06 Sep
21:30 - 22:15 i The Loft Wohnzimmer

Zoe Graham writes songs that sound like doing push-ups on the moon: heavy, but with an unmistakably light touch. Hers is a velvet voice, occasionally back-brushed.

Influenced by artists including St Vincent, Kate Bush and Beck, her folkish beginnings sing through in a penchant for story-led songwriting, and a vocal range that spans the delicate and disaster-struck.

She has previously shared stages with artists including Jenny Hval, Lo Moon, Kawala, Kate Nash, Rae Morris, Fatherson & Hamish Hawk - played festivals such as TRNSMT, Belladrum, Stag & Dagger, Celtic Connections and Tenement Trail. In addition to performing live on national TV from TRSNMT Festival, BBC Quay Sessions with Jake Bugg and on BBC Scotland's new music show TUNE.
